Do you live or work in Oakland? What does your Oakland look like? We want to hear from you!

Join us for a meaningful conversation with NLC Oakland Alums and other community leaders over breakfast on Sunday, June 11 in Downtown Oakland. We'll have an Oakland-based panel and performance.

  • John Jones III, Life Coach with Communities United for Restorative Youth Justice

  • Melvin Cowan, Youth UpRising Director of Community Leadership

Performances by:

  • Samantha Akwei, Poet & NLC Oakland 2016 alum

  • Pendarvis (Pen) Harshaw, Author of OG Told Me

Can't join us, but want to show your support? Please click here to be there in spirit.

Some of the topics we'll be discussing include:

-Why it's important for the community to be engaged on local policy issues

-The ways in which we can and should participated in conversations in order to do the most good

-Different local resources that could compliment your work

-Some of the concrete opportunities for us to get involved now

Following the performance, we'll have time to connect with other members of our community and continue the conversation about how we can all contribute to a more equitable Oakland.

The mission of NLC is to develop the progressive leaders of tomorrow. Identifying promising young leaders outside traditional power structures, NLC has equipped thousands of political entrepreneurs with the skills they need to create inclusively vibrant and socially just communities as they rise to the top of their respective fields.

By attending this event, you will be supporting the next Oakland cohort of political and community leaders making real social justice change. Your support ensures that Oakland’s emerging leaders will have the leadership development and support to reach their highest potential.
